OSCE presents training manual for law enforcement on anti-trafficking
YEREVAN, 26 October 2011 – An OSCE-supported manual for trainers conducting anti-trafficking courses at law enforcement agencies was presented today in Yerevan.
The manual was prepared by a team of national experts as part of a multi-year regional project implemented by the OSCE Office in Yerevan in co-operation with the International Labour Organization and funded by the European Union. The publication is intended for trainers of law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, judges, police officers, border guards, as well as labour inspectors.
“The OSCE supports national governments and civil society in their anti-trafficking efforts, in particular, in strengthening the capacity of law enforcement and in improving national referral mechanism implementation. From that perspective, this methodology can help introduce a more co-ordinated and sustainable approach to the training of the Armenian law enforcement agencies staff in the field of combating trafficking,” said Carel Hofstra, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
The manual outlines a general methodology applicable to specific areas of law enforcement engagement, provides the legal background to these areas, contains training materials, offers recommendations on training methods and describes good practices in combating trafficking, exploitation and other associated crimes. The methodology presented in the manual has been tested in practical training sessions.
The Office has prioritized capacity building for law enforcement agencies as a key component in the implementation of the Armenian Anti-Trafficking National Action Plan for 2010-2012.
