Spreading the word on domestic violence through Tajikistan’s radio waves
Domestic violence is a serious problem in Tajikistan. The government is getting state bodies, civil society and community activists on side to address the problem.
The law on the prevention of domestic violence, adopted by Tajikistan’s parliament in 2013, has brought hope to victims with its provisions on the protection for survivors.
As part of a campaign on raising awareness of women’s rights and combatting domestic violence, radio programmes were aired with support of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan on the independent Avis and Isfara stations in the Istaravshan and Isfara districts of northern Tajikistan.
The programme contained general information about national legislation and its implementation, family protection and rights as well as the activities of human rights organizations in combatting the problem.
Experts from OSCE-supported Women’s Resource Centres also offered their views on different aspects of implementing the law, legal and social protection for victims, and the mechanisms for preventing domestic violence.
The radio programmes are presented in the Tajik language.
