As a follow-up to the 2012 Security Days and in view of the evolving security priorities and needs in Afghanistan and the wider region in the near future, this event aimed to promote a discussion on challenges facing the region and possible next steps in the engagement of the international community in support of Afghanistan. Themes addressed, included support to the Heart of Asia process and combating transnational threats with a particular focus on border management, countering terrorism and narcotics, and education.
With eminent speakers from regional Foreign Ministries, international, regional and sub-regional organisations as well as academic institutions, the OSCE Security Day provided a forum for open debate and further enhancement of the OSCE’s role as a platform for co-operation and dialogue.
