The main theme of this year’s conference, entitled "Strengthening Media Diversity and Pluralism in Central Asia", will be countering so-called harmful content online and offline, while upholding human rights, freedom of the media commitments and ensuring diversity in journalism. The discussions will address the recent moves by governments and platforms in regulating "harmful" content nationally and throughout the OSCE region, and responses by media rights organizations and editorial houses, with a special focus on the COVID-19 pandemic. Human health depends not only on readily accessible health care. It also depends on access to accurate information about the nature of the threats and the means to protect oneself, one’s family, and one’s community. The conference will offer three plenary sessions providing the participants with an opportunity to exchange views and best practices on these issues.
Over the last 20 years, the Central Asia Media Conferences organized by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media have been, and continue to be, a unique platform for the exchange of information and experiences on media freedom. This year’s event will bring together participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, as well as Mongolia, representing the government, media, journalists' associations, civil society and academia. The aim will be to promote media diversity and pluralism and compliance with OSCE principles and commitments in the media freedom field.
The working languages will be English and Russian with simultaneous interpretation.
