OSCE enhances capacity of Tajik prosecutors and investigators on terrorism- and violent extremism-related cases
From 24 July to 4 August 2023, the Programme Office in Dushanbe (Office), in close co-operation with the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Institute for the Study of Law, Order, Crime and Professional Development of Prosecutors, organized three three-day capacity-building workshops on ”Pre-investigation aspects of cases related to terrorism, violent extremism and terrorism financing”. The workshops were attended by 72 local prosecutors and investigators (1 female, 71 male) of Dushanbe, Districts under Central Government Jurisdiction, and the Khatlon and Sughd regions.
The workshops aimed to improve the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of participants on specific features of preliminary investigations of criminal cases related to extremism, terrorism, terrorism financing and the laundering of illicit proceeds. The workshops also covered the specific techniques and methods of conducting investigations and arrest processes for these types of crimes, ensuring respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. The theoretical sessions were combined with interactive sessions and scenario-based exercises, during which the participants discussed technical matters and case-by-case scenarios.
The training seminar is part of the Office’s continuous support to Tajikistan in countering terrorism, as well as in preventing and countering violent extremism radicalisation leading to terrorism (VERLT) in line with the ‘National Strategy and Action Plan on Countering Extremism and Terrorism for 2021-2025’.
