ODIHR promotes increasing accuracy of voter lists in Georgia
Measures to further increase the accuracy of voter lists was the focus of a roundtable discussion organized by the Central Election Commission of Georgia, in co-operation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) on 22 November in Tbilisi.
Representatives of political parties, government bodies and non-governmental organizations discussed good practices and exchanged experiences in developing voter lists in Georgia. Participants also discussed the link between population and voter registration in increasing the accuracy of voter lists.
“The regular and accurate maintenance of population records can be an important factor in ensuring the accuracy of the voter lists on election day,” said Zoran Đoković, ODIHR’s Migration and Freedom of Movement Adviser.
The meeting is part of ODIHR’s ongoing assistance to participating States in following up on recommendations by OSCE/ODIHR election observation missions, which includes building the capacity of authorities to implement and reform population and voter registration systems.
