OSCE Centre promotes sustainable water management in South Kazakhstan
A OSCE-supported workshop on managing water resources was held on 27 and 28 June 2014 in Kyzylorda, Southern Kazakhstan for some 30 members of the Aral-Syrdariya Water Basin Council as well as representative of local authorities, academia, the business community and non-governmental organizations.
The event was co-organized by the OSCE Centre in Astana in partnership with the Executive Directorate of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in Kazakhstan. It was also supported by regional authorities.
The workshop was designed to enhance the knowledge and professional skills of water basin council members, officials from the water authorities as well as their partners in civil society and private sector in sustainably managing the Aral Sea basin. It also aimed to strengthen stakeholders’ role in decision-making processes.
The event is part of Centre’s work aimed at promoting environmentally-friendly growth and sustainable development principles at both the national and regional levels.
