OSCE co-organizes roundtable meeting on improved labour migration management
A roundtable discussion on improving the management of labour migration, organized by the Labour and Social Protection Ministry and the OSCE Centre in Astana, with the support of Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the International Organization for Migration, took place in Astana on 20 November 2013.
Some 20 officials and experts involved in policy-making attended the meeting, representing the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning, migration police, labour unions, and the Entrepreneurs’ Association.
Representatives from the Committee on Migration and the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning made presentations on their current work, plans and legislative activities in the area of migration management. International experts discussed policy approaches and the use of the Migration Integration Policy Index methodology for analysis and enhancement of national migrant integration policies.
The discussion concludes a series of four joint events; it resulted in a final document, recommending steps to improve the labour migration regulatory framework in Kazakhstan.
