OSCE supports seminar in southern Kazakhstan on water resources management
A six-day seminar on integrated water resources management in the context of the national green economy strategy began on 21 October 2013 at the Korkyt Ata State University in Kyzylorda, southern Kazakhstan. The seminar is taking place at a Training Centre established with the OSCE Centre’s support.
The seminar supported by the OSCE Centre brings together representatives from the Aral Sea-Syrdarya River Basin Council to introduce basic concepts related to a transition to the green economy Participants will specifically look at effective irrigation methods in agriculture; responsible use of water resources; measures to reduce water losses and increase the efficiency of water use; and conservation of natural ecosystems, including the wetlands in the new delta of Syrdarya River near the Kokaral dam.
Participants will receive practical training on regional and national level steps to implement these concepts; the programme also includes going to the field to acquire new skills.
The event is part of the OSCE Centre’s activities aimed at facilitating the International Water Rights Management introduction and capacity building at the River Basin Councils’ level.
