Albanian public broadcaster presents statute and editorial guidelines drafted with OSCE Presence and European Broadcasting Union assistance
The Albanian public broadcaster held on 18 November 2016 a consultation meeting on the new draft statute with the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Media, the Audio-Visual Media Authority, media organizations and academia. A final draft of the first ever editorial guidelines for the Albanian public broadcaster was also presented at the meeting, before undergoing a final vote by the Albanian Radio Television’s Steering Board.
The statute of the Albanian Radio Television (RTSH) was drafted on the basis of the audio-visual media law and aims to regulate the activities of the public broadcaster. It needs to be approved in Parliament before entering into force.
The OSCE Presence in Albania, in close co-operation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), provided expertise in finalizing both the draft statute and the draft editorial guidelines.
In June 2015, the Presence, the EBU and RTSH signed a Memorandum of Understanding on joint activities to support the process of transforming the Albanian Radio Television into an editorially independent, professional, sustainable and accountable public service broadcaster.
