OSCE Presence in Albania donates academic books to the Albanian Police Academy
The OSCE Presence in Albania on 4 December 2014 donated a range of academic books to the Albanian Police Academy. The recently-published books on criminology, psychology, criminal law, criminal procedure and other topics of interest for the law enforcement community will form the nucleus of the library of the Academy’s soon-to-be-established police higher education institution.
This donation is not a one-off endeavour but is an integral part of a long-term strategic effort to improve professionalism and effectiveness within the Albanian State Police. The Presence continues to provide training assistance, in co-operation with international partners, to the State Police to address areas where institutional and operational capacities require further development.
However, the Presence is placing increasing emphasis on the sustainability and local ownership of training efforts, to encourage the development of an accredited education system within the Albanian security sector, offering quality training to Albania’s police and other public safety institutions.
In recent months, the Presence has facilitated the visits of several international experts on police education to Albania. These experts have briefed the Albanian State Police about European police education systems and advised the Police Academy staff on planning procedures related to setting up an organizational structure, study programmes and accreditation processes.
