OSCE organizes discussion on increasing women’s political participation in Armenia
The OSCE Office in Yerevan organized a roundtable discussion on 26 June 2012 for women in political parties to share their experiences of the May 2012 parliamentary elections.
The participants discussed their individual experiences during the campaign period and how to augment women’s participation in political life.
“Women leaders play a vital role in the development of robust pluralistic societies,” said Oliver McCoy, Democratization Officer for the OSCE Office in Yerevan. “As we look to build on what has been achieved, it is important that we touch base with the women involved in political parties on a regular basis.”
The event was organized also to follow up on an event on women's participation in political parties, organized in co-operation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in December 2011.
“This event was an excellent opportunity for ODIHR to get direct feedback on the impact its capacity-building activities are having on women's political participation," said Diana Digol, ODIHR Project Officer.
Both the OSCE Office in Yerevan and ODIHR are committed to supporting women’s greater participation in public life in Armenia.
