TASHKENT, 9 November 2011 – The advantages of international agreements on transport and harmonization of legislation as well as the environmental security aspects of transport are the focus of a two-day OSCE-supported seminar which started in Tashkent today.
The seminar will continue in Samarkand on 11 and 12 November.
More than 40 experts from law firms, transport legal services and companies engaged in the delivery of export and imports are taking part in the training seminars, which are led by a UK expert and aim to enhance the participants’ knowledge of international transport law.
The participants will discuss international regulations on international transportation by road, rail, sea and air, share information on transport and logistics regulations in Uzbekistan, and discuss the need for further harmonization of local legislation with international law.
The events have been organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator's Office in Uzbekistan together with the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Business Logistics Development Association.
Ambassador Istvan Venczel, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, said: "Efficient transportation networks are crucial for the integration of countries into the global economy, and thus can lead to the reduction of economic and social disparities and ultimately result in more security and stability."
"While the OSCE does not construct roads or bridges, our involvement is based on the conviction that supporting the development of transport across the region can help build bridges between people and countries."
