OSCE Tashkent Centre holds workshop on small business development in Central Asian tourism sector

TASHKENT, 20 October 2004 - To add momentum to OSCE initiatives to promote regional tourism in Central Asia, the OSCE Centre in Tashkent today held an event devoted to the challenges and opportunities of developing tourism in the region.
It takes place on the margins of the 21-23 October Tashkent International Tourism Fair.
Today's meeting is a follow-up to the "Central Asia Workshop on Income Generation through the Promotion of SME Development in the Tourism Sector", which took place in Almaty in July, at the initiative of the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities and the OSCE Centre in Almaty.
Two representatives (one from the government and one from the private sector) from each Central Asian country who participated in the Almaty Workshop, OSCE field presences, representatives of international organizations and the business community are participating in the event.
The Tashkent meeting will provide a forum for the further discussion of recommendations from the Almaty Workshop, as well as the opportunity to discuss participation in the Tashkent International Tourism Fair.
