OSCE Tashkent Centre organizes training on legal and professional standards for media coverage of elections

TASHKENT, 26 August 2004 - As part of the preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the OSCE Centre in Tashkent is holding from 24 to 28 August training courses for media representatives.
The aim is to provide the press with information regarding their rights and responsibilities in covering elections, as well as on legislation related to elections and the media.
Journalists from seven regions of Uzbekistan, participating in the training, will learn about international standards in covering elections, review published materials on election-related issues and receive legal consultations and recommendations from lawyers. They will also take part in practical exercises to enhance their writing skills.
Uzbekistan will hold parliamentary elections on 26 December 2004.
