OSCE and Central Asia: presentation at National University of Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, 29 March 2001 - The current challenges and future prospects in Central Asia for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe was the theme for discussion during a special presentation for the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the National University of Uzbekistan recently.
Organized by the OSCE Centre in Tashkent, the presentation featured keynote speakers Mr. Josiah Rosenblatt, Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Anthony Schinella, Political Officer of the United States Mission to the OSCE. The U.S. officials are on a fact-finding mission to central Asian countries. This presentation provided then with an opportunity to speak with about 70 students of history, journalism and law, and gain a unique perspective about contemporary events in Uzbekistan.
During the presentation, Mr. Rosenblatt and Mr. Schinella spoke about the history of the OSCE, issues facing the organization, as well as the United States position on various matters.
