KYIV, 8 November 2002 - A high-ranking delegation from the Office of the Ukrainian General Prosecutor, the Interior Ministry and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will make a study trip to Italy from 10 to 13 November.
The trip, organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, will allow an exchange of experience in the fight against organized crime, trafficking in human beings, corruption and money laundering, as well as in witness and victim protection.
The Ukrainian delegation will meet Italian counterparts, including the Prosecutor's Office of the Direzione Distrettuale "Antimafia" in Bari, state police (Questura), Carabinieri and NGOs.
The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine has, together with the General Prosecutor Office of Ukraine, carried out a series of seminars on strategies in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
The Project Co-ordinator also runs projects on fighting trafficking in human beings, such as supporting counselling hotlines in seven Ukrainian cities (together with the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, ODIHR), and helping to develop witness and victim protection programmes.
