Fourth anti-corruption seminar in Ukraine

CHERNIHIV, 15 March 2002 - The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine held the fourth seminar on "Strategies in the Fight against Corruption and Strategies in Preventing Corruption" from 13 to14 March in Chernihiv.
The seminar, which was held in co-operation with the country's Public Prosecutor General and co-financed by the American Bar Association for Central and Central Eastern Law Initiatives, gathered around 70 representatives from the northern oblast prosecutor's offices, tax administration investigation units, special security services and militia divisions specializing on the fight against corruption.
Foreign experts from Italy and the US shared their experience with the audience, together with Ukrainian representatives from the Prosecutor General Office and the Interdepartmental Scientific and Research Center for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption.
During the seminar recommendations for necessary amendments in the Ukrainian Legislation on the issue of fight against organized crime and corruption were discussed. It was agreed that the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine would be a focal point between the Ukrainian and foreign experts for further discussions.
The next seminar, which is also the last of the programme with the Prosecutor General Office in Ukraine, will be held on 15-16 May 2002 in Kyiv.
