OSCE Project Co-ordinator works with Ukrainian army to establish military police

KYIV, 13 October 2000 - The OSCE Project Co-ordinator started technical assistance to the working group in the Armed Forces in Ukraine that is tasked with the establishment of Military Police. Ukraine is about to create the institution of Military Police, which the Ukrainian Army did not have up to now.
Co-operation in this field was agreed on with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine following the seminar on military judiciary and law enforcement that was held on 19-21 June 2000.
The planned activities aim at providing expertise and allowing Ukraine to draw on foreign concepts of Military Police and taking into account the experiences that were made in countries that have a tradition of such an institution. Additionally it is foreseen to provide technical assistance e.g. in elaborating regulations and instructions.
