OSCE Office in Tajikistan supports negotiation training for Interior Ministry special forces
The OSCE Office in Tajikistan helped organize a training course on negotiating with terrorists for the release of hostages, for special forces staff of the Interior Ministry from 4 to 12 April 2012.
As part of the course, international experts presented the basic principles of tactical planning of special operations to combat terrorism and conducted workshops on negotiating with terrorists and hostage rescue, emphasizing the importance of human rights in the context of combating terrorism. The training concluded with tactical exercises involving a hostage scenario, allowing the participants to demonstrate what they had learned.
“The training course is aimed at further advancing the participants’ skills and promoting departmental and regional co-operation, which is critical to combat terrorism," said Oliver Janser, the Counter Terrorism and Police Adviser of the OSCE Office.
The course was held as part of activities agreed in a Memorandum of Understanding on police reform signed by the Government of Tajikistan and the OSCE Office.
