OSCE Field Office in Tajikistan helps youth gain business skills
GARM 17 May 2004
GARM, 17 May 2004 - A ten-day camp in Tajikistan's Rasht district which aims at helping the young people acquire business skills got under way here this week.
Organized by the local OSCE Field Office with the support of the Rasht District Youth Committee and the municipality's Education Department, the event brings together 26 participants from 2 schools in Garm.
"The camp will help participants to find out more about the international economic environment, as well as train them in business management and leadership, and also improve their English language skills," said Alexander Kuzmin, Head of the OSCE Garm Field Office.
Other subjects include drug prevention, trafficking in human beings and migration. The organizers hope that the knowledge gained will help students play a more active role in Tajikistan's social, democratic and economic development.
Gunta Robezniece, Gender Officer in the OSCE Centre in Dushanbe, welcomed the fact that both girls and boys were participating in the camp, and stressed the importance of giving them equal opportunities in education and professional development.
Nemonjon Rahmonov from the Rasht District's Education Department, noted that the young generation often had limited access to education and thanked the OSCE Office for organizing the event. "This camp, held for the third time, will allow the youth to contribute to the development of the most remote districts of the valley," he said.
