OSCE Centre provides ecology teaching aids to Tajik Ministry

DUSHANBE, 9 April 2008 - The OSCE Centre in Dushanbe handed over today 8,500 copies of a text book on ecology of Tajikistan to the Education Ministry at an event organized together with the State Environment Protection Committee.
The publication, "Environment for the Generation to Come", was prepared by the Central Asian Regional Ecological Centre (CAREC), an OSCE executive partner.
"The authors' goal was to form a different attitude towards environment among the young generation. This will help promote understanding of the mutual dependence of human beings and nature," said Ambassador Vladimir Pryakhin, the Head of the OSCE Centre.
The teaching aids will be distributed to schools across Tajikistan for complementary classes on ecology for middle school students.
"The publication of this text book is a significant step in nature protection. It will help nurture a nature-sensitive generation. The fact that it not only gives general information about environment protection, but focuses on the environmental situation in Tajikistan, will make students appreciate the subject even more," said Education Minister Abdujabbor Rakhmonov.
The project was financed by the Canadian International Development Agency.
