The OSCE Office in Tajikistan trains state experts and civil society on corruption risk assessment
The OSCE Office in Tajikistan conducted its first workshop on how to identify and assess corruption risks in specific sectors for 20 participants from ten state agencies and civil society organizations, which took place from 11 to 14 April in Dushanbe. The aim of the workshop was to provide participants with the necessary practical tools and methodologies that will help them to elaborate practical and focused anti-corruption strategies.
Based on analytical data, statistics and background information compiled by the Office, government and civil society representatives learned how to identify corruption risks in healthcare, education, and border and law enforcement sectors and ways to develop measures to mitigate those risks.
Markus Mueller, Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, was impressed by the interaction between civil society and experts from the Anti-Corruption Agency, Ministry of Justice, and other state structures at this workshop. “With a good political will, Tajikistan has a great potential to tackle corruption.”
As the outcome of the workshop, participants jointly drafted a corruption risk assessment plan based on their findings and contained provisions from the Tajik legal system. This plan will be shared with the Government of Tajikistan and suggested to be used in their corruption risk assessment activities.
The workshop on corruption risk assessment was requested by the Agency for State Financial Control and Fight against Corruption and followed after initiatives on elaboration and monitoring of anti-corruption strategies.
This event is a part of the multi-year initiative of the Office on elaborating, monitoring and evaluating anti-corruption strategies and work plans. Supporting the development of anti-corruption strategies through methodologies for public servants and through the creation of an inter-institutional working group will constitute one of two policy directions of the Office over the next two years in its efforts to assist Tajikistan in fighting corruption.
