OSCE facilitates regional trade through the Sughd Trade Fair
KHUJAND, northern Tajikistan, 24 July 2015 - Two-day regional trade fair “Sughd-2015” will be held in Khujand, the administrative centre of the northern Sughd region. It is organized by the regional government in co-operation with OSCE Office in Tajikistan (OiT) and other development partners.
The trade fair will encompass a number of side events, including the annual International Trade and Investment Forum held on the first day.
The second day will be devoted to the regional “Best Product -2015” competition where representatives of large farming enterprises, exporters, trading companies, banks, microfinance, international and non-governmental organizations, as well as business associations and the media participate.
The event provides participants with an opportunity to share experiences, familiarize themselves with export opportunities, as well as to improve their export potential by building partnerships with new economic actors.
The regional trade fair serves as an important link between the Sughd province and potential business partners. According to George Sand, the OSCE Office in Tajikistan’s Economic Officer, “The Sughd Trade Fair is of high importance for Tajikistan’s cross border trade with its neighbours. It also has the potential of improving food security and economic development co-operation, as well as trans-boundary community relations.”
He also added that while seeking solutions to trade barriers, the OSCE Office in Tajikistan will continue supporting the development of the country’s trade development strategies.
