OSCE Mission to Skopje helps strengthen Interior Ministry’s human resources management
SKOPJE, 3 November 2011 – Strengthening the human resources management of the Interior Ministry is the aim of an OSCE-supported seminar taking place today in the south-western town of Ohrid.
The two-day workshop organized by the Interior Ministry and supported by the OSCE Mission to Skopje brings together 90 participants including top and middle management staff of the Ministry, as well as experts from the US Justice Department International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Programme, the Hungarian National Police and the European Union. The participants and international experts will discuss the new legal provisions on disciplinary procedures within the Ministry and ways to develop a democratic, transparent, professional, and impartial model of managing human resources.
“A modern police service must be built on an effective and efficient human resources management system,” said the OSCE Mission’s Head of Police Development Department Paulo Costa. “Recruitment, appointment, promotion and disciplinary actions must be based on strong clear laws and procedures to ensure transparency and fairness in the police career system, and today’s joint event is a step towards achieving this.”
Director for Public Security of the Interior Ministry Ljubco Todorovski added: “The seminar will help raise awareness about the new legislation and bring its implementation in line with the Law on Internal Affairs and the new Interior Ministry’s collective agreement.”
