International representatives in Skopje comment on 2002 Census
SKOPJE 2 October 2003
SKOPJE, 2 October 2003 - The following is a joint statement by Ambassador Craig Jenness, the Head of the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje, Alexis Brouhns, the EU Special Representative, Ambassador Donato Chiarini, the Head of the European Commission Delegation, Lawrence Butler, the US Ambassador to Skopje and NATO Ambassador Nicolaas Biegman:
"Today we had a meeting with the International Monitoring and Observation Mission for the 2002 Census, who are analysing and verifying the census process according to all international statistical standards.
Their expert analysis will verify the census data in order to make sure that all citizens can be confident in the final result. The international statistical experts will examine all possible sources of errors which are common to all censuses in Europe, and which will be dealt with according to international standards for census operations.
The International Community works closely together with the National Statistical Office and other bodies involved in the operation, in particular the State Census Commission, to ensure that the proper procedures are followed.
We follow closely, and will continue to follow, all phases of the 2002 census. The census will provide valuable data for formulating policies that will contribute to the development of the country and its future integration into the European Union.
We are positive that the final result of the census will present a correct statistical image."
