OSCE mission urges Macedonian party to participate in Ohrid Meeting
SKOPJE 19 December 2002
SKOPJE, 19 DECEMBER 2002 - The OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje regrets the announcement yesterday by senior officials of VMRO-DPMNE that the party is considering not to participate in the forthcoming meeting to discuss further implementation of the Ohrid Agreement. The mission sincerely hopes they will reconsider and decide to participate.
The Ohrid Framework Agreement is the basis for peace, stability, freedom, and economic progress in this country. To have all the signatories back at the table creates a good opportunity to discuss progress that has been made since its signing, to put aside misunderstandings, to discuss important problems the country is facing, and to find mutually agreed ways to ensure complete fulfillment of all aspects of the Agreement.
The Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization - Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) is one of the signatories of the Framework Agreement. Many important aspects were realized during its period in government. It has reaffirmed its commitment to the Agreement many times, including in promises to its voters during the election campaign. It has been an important and constructive partner in the process so far.
The Mission looks forward to the meeting taking place with full participation of all signatories. The process must continue for the benefit of all citizens of this country. Any step away from the Ohrid Agreement is a step away from the Euro-Atlantic family.
