OSCE continues to foster the Macedonian regional community policing
SKOPJE 10 December 2002
SKOPJE, 10 December 2002 - The Police Development Unit of the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje is organising three regional community policing seminars in Tetovo, Kumanovo, and Gostivar on 11, 12 and 14 December.
The seminars aim at enhancing the citizen's trust in the police and at fostering the process of police integration with communities.
"We sincerely believe that the spirit of partnership and co-operation in building-up effective regional community policing will come from the broader understanding that there should be local solutions to local problems," Head of the OSCE Police Development Unit, Bart D'Hooge, said.
The seminars will be attended by 70 participants representing local police services, local communities, non-governmental organizations, media and international organizations. Specific topics will be discussed and developed. The outcome should be a list of proposals and recommendations to further community policing.
The seminars follow on from the successful Community Policing workshops started in spring 2002. They are held in co-operation with the Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia and the United States International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (US ICITAP),
