OSCE launches media management and marketing course in Skopje
SKOPJE 26 November 2002
SKOPJE, 26 November 2002 - A two-week training course on business management and marketing for local independent TV and radio stations has just been launched by the Media Development Unit of the OSCE's Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje.
The course, one of several being held in conjunction with the Macedonian Institute for Media, is aimed at helping small and medium sized media outlets adopt business practices that can help them become sustainable in the long-term.
Twelve managers from Macedonian, Albanian and Roma stations are attending the present course, being led by international trainers, which ends on 6 December.
These courses are part of the media training programme run by the OSCE's Media Development Unit in Skopje.
"The Macedonian media market is overcrowded and highly competitive, so courses like these are important to help the best media organizations get ahead and become commercially viable", said Daniel Renton, Head of the Unit.
The 2002 programme includes basic and intermediate training for Roma journalists, as well as advanced digital TV camera skills.
The Macedonian Institute for Media was established by the Dutch School of Journalism and the International Research & Exchanges Board/ProMedia in 2002 with international donor money. Currently the only media training centre in the country, the Institute is fully equipped with digital technology for training in TV, radio and print journalism.
It collaborates with the Dutch School of Journalism and other media development organizations to be able to provide international, highly-skilled trainers.
