OSCE Mission congratulates police service members on Day of Macedonian Police
SKOPJE 8 May 2002
SKOPJE, 7 May 2002 - The OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje congratulates the members of the Macedonian police service on the occasion of the Day of Macedonian Police today.
The OSCE Mission has worked very closely with the country's Ministry of Interior and the police in a number of important tasks related to the Ohrid Framework Agreement. The successful redeployment of police into former crisis areas has been an important step in ensuring territorial integrity and re-building trust and confidence.
The process has not always been easy, but with the increasing dialogue between communities and multi-ethnic police officers it is nearing a very satisfactory conclusion. The training of new multi-ethnic police cadets has also been a very positive programme that enjoys broad support of the population.
The OSCE Mission is confident that the Macedonian police will continue to play a major role in restoring stability while building confidence among communities. It is looking forward to continuing its assistance to ensure a multi-ethnic police service, which will work for and with all citizens in accordance with the highest European principles.
