OSCE Mission to Skopje supports training on gender topics for heads of police prevention units
SKOPJE, 18 November 2009 - A training course supported by the OSCE Mission to Skopje aimed at increasing the capacity of police prevention unit to prevent and combat gender-based violence was launched in Skopje today.
The project, initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and supported by the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje, will focus on topics such as domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.
"The training will help police prevention unit members to take a gender-sensitive approach to preventing cases of domestic violence and to see good practices implemented in other countries," said Ambassador Natalya Drozd, the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje.
Marija Jankulovska, the head of the Human Resources section at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, expressed her support for the project: "I believe the lessons learned during the training will become an important part of the police work in dealing with cases of domestic violence."
