Head of OSCE Mission to Skopje welcomes adoption of National Broadcast Strategy

SKOPJE, 27 November 2007 - The head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje, Ambassador Giorgio Radicati, welcomed the Broadcast Council's adoption today of the National Broadcast Strategy, saying it will further improve the professionalism of the country's media.
The strategy, developed with the support of the OSCE Mission, pays special attention to the multi-ethnic character of the country and calls for measures that ensure freedom of expression and pluralism in new media. Its implementation also will provide all ethnic groups with equal access to information and services in their native languages.
"The Broadcast Council prepared the strategy in a transparent manner that included all media policy makers in the country," Radicati said. "This document will contribute to further improvement of the professionalism and freedom of the media in the multi-ethnic society."
The President of the Broadcast Council, Mirce Adamcevski, added: "All participants who took part in the drafting the strategy and all media stakeholders should be actively involved in its implementation."
The adoption of the strategy comes before a deadline of end of November 2007 set in the Broadcast Law.
