OSCE Skopje Mission supports winter camp to educate young people on democracy-building
SKOPJE 26 November 2007
SKOPJE, 26 November 2007 - Sixty high school students of different ethnic backgrounds had a chance to socialize and learn about good governance, and economic and environmental issues at an OSCE Mission-supported winter camp, which ends in Mavrovo today.
The activity was initiated by the local non-governmental organization Youth Education Forum, supported by the OSCE Mission to Skopje and funded by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.
"The camp enabled the participants to develop new perspectives on living in multi-ethnic societies and will strengthen their capacity to contribute to the building of sustainable and peaceful modern societies," said Bernard Segarra, the Head of the Confidence-Building Unit within the OSCE Mission.
The President of the Youth Education Forum, Bojan Markic, said: "The camp contributed not only to addressing the issue of segregation among young people, but it also provided them with an opportunity to take an active role in shaping their own future."
This year's ten-day programme was based on the lessons learned and feedback from former participants of previous summer and winter camps.
