SKOPJE 19 September 2007
SKOPJE, 19 September 2007 - The Academy for Training of Judges and Prosecutors, supported by the OSCE Mission to Skopje, welcomed its first class of students today.
"The opening of the Academy is not only an important day in the history of the judiciary in the country, but is also an essential stage in judicial reform," said Ambassador Giorgio Radicati, Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje, at the opening ceremony.
"Without an independent and well-educated judiciary that upholds the highest professional and ethical standards, economic, social and cultural growth is hardly feasible."
Nikola Gruevski, the Prime Minister, said: "This new generation of judges and prosecutors will be the moving force in achieving the rule of law by acquiring in-depth knowledge of the national and international standards and best practices of law. This will constitute the foundation of an independent, impartial and effective judiciary."
The Government received support from the OSCE Mission, the European Agency for Reconstruction and the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training, for the Academy.
