Head of OSCE Mission to Skopje discusses decentralization process with municipal officials

SKOPJE, 12 March 2007 - Ambassador Giorgio Radicati, the Head of the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje, met today the mayor of Karposh to discuss achievements and challenges of the decentralization process.
Today's meeting in Skopje with Andrej Petrov, the President of the Association of Municipalities (ZELS) and the Mayor of Karposh municipality, will be followed by talks with other mayors, including the Vice President of ZELS Koce Trajanovski, the Mayor of Gazi Baba municipality.
"Financial security for municipalities is the cornerstone of the decentralzation process," said Ambassador Radicati.
"The OSCE Mission to Skopje remains committed to supporting the domestic authorities in further implementing decentralization and particularly in overcoming the challenging fiscal issues."
Andrej Petrov expressed his gratitude for the Mission's support over the last two years in capacity-building activities in the municipalities.
In recent meetings with the President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of the Parliament, Ambassador Radicati has said that support for successful decentralization continues to be a priority for the OSCE Mission.
