OSCE Mission to Skopje facilitates co-operation between Ombudsman and local authorities
SKOPJE 7 December 2006
SKOPJE, 7 December 2006 - Enhancing co-operation between the Ombudsman and local authorities was the aim of a roundtable discussion held in Tetovo today.
Participants at the OSCE-supported event decided to regularly exchange information and develop closer ties with international organizations, including the Council of Europe.
"A solid working relationship between the Ombudsman regional offices and the local government is a sign of a mature and healthy municipal life," said Natalya Drozd, the Acting Head of the OSCE Spillover Monitor Mission to Skopje.
"Working together, these institutions have the ability to increase public confidence and raise the level of professionalism in local self-government institutions while promoting active citizens' participation in the local decision-making processes."
Ombudsman Ixhet Memeti added: "Together we can help citizens be better informed on the new competencies of the local self-government and the Ombudsman in relation to protection of their rights. Discussions such as the one we had today can contribute to achieving this common goal for the benefit of all citizens."
