OSCE Mission to Skopje supports the “Open Day of Multiculturalism” in Kichevo
Promoting multicultural diversity and improving co-operation between civil society and local institutions were the aims of an Open Day of Multiculturalism held in Kichevo on 17 October 2015, supported by the OSCE Mission to Skopje and the Citizens’ Group “Vredit da si od Kichevo” (It’s worth being from Kichevo).
The “Open Day” brought together Kichevo residents of different age groups and backgrounds, civil society organizations and local authorities to stress the value of multicultural diversity and to promote an active civil society.
“Multiculturalism is the basis for a more prosperous future and co-existence among all ethnic communities,” said Deputy Head of OSCE Mission to Skopje Marianne Berecz. “The contribution of young generations is of crucial importance.”
This event is part of an OSCE-supported project to prevent and address inter-ethnic tensions through confidence-building measures.
After the event, Marianne Berecz and the Mayor of Kichevo Fatmir Dehari signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a project on supporting youth policy institutions and structures. Under the project, the Mission will provide support for building the capacity of the Local Youth Council in Kichevo to enable their active involvement in decision-making processes affecting youth at the local level.
