OSCE-supported training on understanding and investigating hate crimes takes place in Skopje
The OSCE Mission to Skopje, in co-operation with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), will train 50 law enforcement officers in recognizing, understanding and investigating hate crimes from 23 to 29 April 2015 in Skopje.
The activity aims at strengthening the institutional capacity and efficiency of the Interior Ministry in addressing hate crimes and fighting against all kinds of discrimination, consistent with the principles of democratic policing in multi-ethnic societies.
ODIHR experts on hate crimes will train police officers on how to properly investigate hate crimes and ensure support to the victims, at the same time raising their awareness about existing stereotypes, non-tolerance and discrimination in all communities.
During the group exercises, the police trainers will practice how to deliver ODIHR’s Training Against Hate Crimes for Law Enforcement (TAHCLE) programme to their fellow colleagues and provide them with the necessary skills to understand, confront and process hate crime.
The activity is based on the 2014 memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and ODIHR.
