Good practices in political party and campaign financing discussed at OSCE-supported conference in Skopje
The OSCE Mission to Skopje in co-operation with the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption and with the EU Delegation is organizing a conference on good practices for political party and campaign financing that started in Skopje on 30 October 2013.
At the two-day conference, representatives from various institutions, civil society, the international community and political parties will discuss the legislative framework and best practices regarding the financing of political party activities and election campaigns.
“The regulation of political party financing is essential to ensure their independence and to guarantee that they compete in accordance with the principle of all parties having equal opportunities in receiving funding,” said the Head of OSCE Mission to Skopje, Ambassador Ralf Breth, at the opening of the conference. “Equally important is to ensure that parties are funded in a transparent and accountable manner.”
“The legislative framework must clearly define sources and limits for contributions to party accounts, and establish the necessary mechanisms for exercising effective control over the financing process.”
