Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting (SHDM) III - Human Rights and Education: Promoting human rights, peaceful coexistence and security in the OSCE region through education

The third Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting (SHDM) will offer a platform to OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions and executive structures, international organisations, civil society organizations and academic experts, to discuss the current state of play when it comes to advancing human rights education and access to education. It will explore initiatives and programs meant to facilitate and support policy making as well as opportunities to leverage new information technologies for advancing human rights education and promoting the right to education.

The meeting will address good practices from across the OSCE area, with a focus on the following key areas:

• Policy making for mainstreaming human rights education in the OSCE region
• Leveraging new information technologies for advancing human rights education
• Effective enjoyment of the right to education as a tool to foster peace and security

During the meeting, recommendations may be addressed to participating States, OSCE institutions, including the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, OSCE executive structures, the OSCE at large, other inter-governmental as well as civil society actors in OSCE participating States.

Participants

Representatives of OSCE participating States, OSCE institutions and OSCE executive structures, representatives of inter-governmental organizations, representatives of civil society and researchers from 57 participating States that have relevant experience in the topic are encouraged to participate in the SHDM. The Partners for Co-operation are invited to attend and contribute with respect to their co-operation and links with the OSCE in the field.

Participation in the Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting is free of charge, although all travel and accommodation costs should be borne by participants. Participants are kindly requested to make their own travel and hotel arrangements.                 A list of selected hotels in Vienna is available below.

Registration

Participants wishing to attend the meeting are requested to register online at meetings.odihr.pl. Registration system will open on Wednesday, 26 September at 12.00 noon CET, and close on Wednesday, 3 October at 23.59 CET. Important note: registration after this date will be closed and registration on-site will not be available.

Modalities & Logistics

The modalities of the meeting are set out in accordance with the decision of the Permanent Council (PC.DEC/476, 23 May 2002).

The meeting will start with the opening session, followed by three working sessions and the closing session. For further details please consult the General Information and Agenda documents.

Interpretation will be provided into the six official OSCE languages: English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

Side events

The possibility to hold side events during SHDM will be provided. To book a side event, please register first through the ODIHR Conference and Event Registration System (meetings.odihr.pl) and then proceed to side event booking. The booking system will open on Monday, 1 October at 12.00 noon CET, and close on Wednesday, 3 October at 23.59 (noon) CET.
