OSCE Secretary General meets NATO counterpart in Brussels to discuss Western Balkans, Afghanistan
OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier met NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen during an official visit to Brussels on 25 and 26 November 2013.
Zannier welcomed co-operation with KFOR, the NATO-led international peacekeeping force in Kosovo that helped ensure a safe and peaceful election process in northern Kosovo. The OSCE is facilitating the municipal elections in the four northern Kosovo municipalities, in line with the 19 April Belgrade-Pristina/Pristinë agreement.
The meeting covered potential security threats from Afghanistan during and after the 2014 transition, an issue high on the OSCE’s political agenda. Security in Central Asia was also discussed in the light of the role of the two Organizations in the region, including exchanges of views on training for law-enforcement and customs officers and border guards.
Transnational threats such as terrorism and cybercrime were also discussed.
Zannier also met EU Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Štefan Füle and other high-level EU officials.
