Afghanistan, protracted conflicts, amongst issues for OSCE Secretary General at UN General Assembly

The 2014 transition in Afghanistan, international efforts to resolve protracted conflicts, transnational threats and OSCE operations - such as facilitating upcoming elections in Kosovo - are on the agenda of meetings for OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier during the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which opened on 24 September 2013.
Zannier has held meetings with UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson, UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane, Administrator of the UN Development Programme Helen Clark, and other high-level officials.
Other meetings during the week include Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Edmund Mulet; Deputy Executive Director of UNWOMEN Lakshmi Puri; Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Le Lung Minh; Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Nabil El-Araby, Secretary General of the League of Arab States. Meetings with a number of foreign ministers from OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation are also on the agenda.
