BELGRADE, 28 October 2004 - A new website with information on the activities and court proceedings of the District Court in Belgrade, including both the War Crimes Chamber and Specialized Department (for Organized Crime), has been launched by the Court with the support of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro.
The website will increase the understanding of the work of the court among the media, NGOs and the general public.
'The creation of the website reflects growing interest in the work of the District Court," said Ambassador Maurizio Massari, Head of the OSCE Mission. "This will increase the transparency of the court and public confidence in the judiciary."
The official launch of the website was attended today by members of the judiciary and government, as well as the international community and NGOs.
The OSCE Mission funded the development and establishment of the website in response to the increasing public interest in the activities of the Specialized Department (for Organized Crime) and the War Crimes Chamber, both of which fall under the jurisdiction of the District Court in Belgrade. In addition the court acts as the superior court for nine municipal courts with more than 2 million people living in its area of jurisdiction. This makes it one of the largest courts in the region.
The website will contain general information about the court, hearing schedules, and a review of the most important judgements, decisions and interpretations.
The site will also be linked to relevant institutions, such as the Serbian Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, the Supreme Court and other professional associations.
The address of the website is:
