OSCE Mission provides bar exam training for lawyers from southern Serbia
VRANJSKA BANJA 30 August 2004
VRANJSKA BANJA, 30 August 2004 - The OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, in co-operation with the Belgrade non-governmental organization Projuris Organization for Legal Education, has today launched a bar exam training programme for 70 lawyers from southern Serbia.
Preparatory training is being held in the southern Serbian town of Vranjska Banja and will continue for two months until the end of October.
This training programme will contribute to a broader programme designed to improve the ethnic integration, proficiency and professionalism of the judiciary. Participants will be able to improve their legal knowledge and further their careers after completing the Serbian bar exam.
Participants in the two multi-ethnic classes were selected from applications solicited through the courts and media of southern Serbia, and include judicial trainees as well as other lawyers and human rights activists.
Each class member receives course materials, practice examinations, and a set of ten publications, one for each subject covered in the bar exam. The lecturers are experienced and highly regarded members of the judiciary and law faculties, and experts in the ten different subjects of law presented in the programme.
The OSCE Mission will continue to support the development of the judiciary and legal system in southern Serbia through a comprehensive programme leading to an ethnically representative, well-trained, and professional judiciary operating efficient and independent courts.
