OSCE Mission and Novi Sad District Court hold roundtable on training of court interns
NOVI SAD 9 July 2004
NOVI SAD, 9 July 2004 - The OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro and the Novi Sad District Court held a first joint roundtable today to present and critically assess the training programme of interns developed by the Court.
Court presidents and judges responsible for training the interns, who come from the southern Vojvodina region, attended the event.
"The implementation of a relevant and comprehensive training programme for interns in each court is an important part of the development of a professional, competent and efficient judiciary," said Ilias Chatzis, Head of the OSCE Mission's Rule of Law and Human Rights Department, opening the event.
The roundtable also included a discussion on court-media relations and a set of protocols developed by the Novi Sad District Court aimed at developing similar programmes for each court.
"The media plays a vital and influential role in the public's perception of the judiciary and the justice system," Chatzis added. "Communicating effectively with the media leads to greater transparency in the courts and better and more accurate information for the public."
Additional roundtables are planned for court presidents and judges in northern Vojvodina on 16 July, and in southern Serbia in the second half of September.
