DANILOVGRAD, 4 June 2004 - Twelve police officers of the Montenegrin Interior Ministry graduated today from the OSCE Trainer Development Course at a ceremony held at the Danilovgrad Police Academy in Montenegro. They are now certified to instruct their fellow police officers at the school and will be working together with international trainers.
In addition, 15 mid-level managers received their certificates after completing the Modern Management Principles Course, delivered jointly by OSCE police trainers and the new Montenegrin National Police Trainers.
Montenegrin Assistant Minister of Interior Mico Orlandic and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, attended the event.
Ambassador Massari explained the importance of having well-qualified local police trainers: "The graduation of the National Police Trainers marks an important stage in our co-operation with the Montenegrin police service because it represents a model of the type of assistance that the OSCE and international community will be focusing on in the future," he said.
"The building of a professional police officers corps is an important part of our common endeavor to consolidate democratic institutions in Serbia and Montenegro."
Officers from the Interior Ministry started attending the six-week Trainer Development Course at the Advanced Police Training Center in Zemun in Belgrade in August 2003. This was followed by a five-week long mentoring phase with OSCE trainers. Twelve officers who successfully completed the previous stages participated in training together with the OSCE international staff to deliver the Police Development Course. This was aimed at improving the operational skills of the Montenegrin police.
As a part of the Modern Management Principles Course, a total of 30 mid-level managers have now been trained with OSCE experts in areas such as communication, effective presentation, leadership, motivation, planning and coaching.
