BELGRADE, 6 October 2003 - The Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, Ambassador Maurizio Massari, welcomed the agreement on refugee returns, signed today between Serbia and Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The OSCE Mission applauds the effort made to find a regional solution to the refugee question, given that a solution to the refugee question is a prerequisite for integration towards Europe. The OSCE Mission is also committed to facilitating agreement on a tri-lateral return process between Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia before the end of 2003.
"The agreement signed today is an important step in facilitating return of refugees in the region," said Ambassador Massari, who was present at the signing of the agreement.
"The OSCE stands ready to assist implementation of this agreement through the Mission's support for the Ministry for Minorities and Human Rights and the Commissariat for Refugees."
In this regard the OSCE Mission will shortly provide the Commissariat with expertise in the sectors of finance and local settlements.
The agreement on refugee return was signed by Serbia and Montenegro Minister for Minorities and Human Rights, Rasim Ljajic, and his counterpart in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirsad Kebo.
