OSCE Mission condemns violence in southern Serbia
BELGRADE 24 February 2003
BELGRADE, 24 February 2003 - The OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro strongly condemns the latest episode of violence in southern Serbia. On Sunday, 23 February, one member of the Gendarmerie was killed in an explosion of a bomb close to Bujanovac. The OSCE expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the victim.
Those who perpetrate such cowardly acts of violence have to understand that such acts cannot be accepted in a democratic society. The OSCE, for its part, will not allow any provocation to disrupt the ongoing process of consolidating the rule of law, and multiethnic democracy in the region.
Together with the local governments in southern Serbia and the authorities in Belgrade, we remain deeply committed to the success of the peace process and the further stabilization of the region.
