Awareness initiative to be launched for 22 December Montenegrin presidential election
BELGRADE/PODGORICA 12 December 2002
BELGRADE/PODGORICA, 12 December 2002 - The OSCE Mission to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Council of Europe will launch a TV, press and billboard awareness initiative in Montenegro tomorrow, 13 December, to encourage the Republic's electorate to participate in the presidential election scheduled for 22 December.
"The people of Montenegro will once again exercise their right to vote as they have traditionally done, so that the basic institutions of the Republic can be soon in place and able to respond to the challenges of the coming period", said Mark Davison, Acting Head of the OSCE Mission.
The OSCE and Council of Europe believe that it is in the interests of the voters of Montenegro, whatever their political persuasion, to use their vote and thereby put an end to uncertainty and accelerate the prospects for reform.
This voter awareness initiative will run until the start of the official period of electoral silence on the evening of Friday, 20 December 2002.
