BELGRADE 7 March 2002
BELGRADE, 7 March 2002 - Ambassador Stefano Sannino, Head of the OSCE Mission to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), warmly welcomes the appointment of Mr. Jovan Ratkovic as the National Co-ordinator for the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe.
As stated by Ambassador Sannino, "The Mission looks forward to working closely and effectively with Mr. Ratkovic and the Stability Pact in general, since we feel that we can together actively enhance a regional dimension to development and co-operation."
"The Mission hopes to further develop co-operation in areas of common concern and expertise, so that the process of assisting Yugoslavia towards accession to European Institutions may be accelerated", Head of the Mission added.
Relations between the OSCE Mission to the FRY and the Stability Pact have recently been further strengthened with the signing of a Memorandum of Co-operation in December 2001.
Both the OSCE and the Stability Pact give priority to developing a regional approach and working closely together under the three working tables of the Stability Pact. The areas of activity range from judicial reform to police reform, from media affairs to anti-trafficking activities, and from fight against corruption to the reduction of small arms and light weapons.
